In Memory of Tony Woods
Read below how the village will remember Tony.
Tony Woods was a real community champion who would do anything for anyone, was instrumental in setting up the Rural Coffee Caravan visits to Aldringham, coordinated Neighbourhood Watch, was very involved with the church, and much, much more. He was a very lovely and good person and good friend to me.
Sadly Tony died of a heart attack whilst taking part in the Highland Classic Motorcycle Club Loch Ness Rally on 11 June 2017. He was riding one of his beloved Francis Barnett motor bikes which subsequently went off the road, ending up leaning on a roadside rocky outcrop. He died doing something he loved.
Tony was the beloved and devoted husband of Moira, amazing father of Graham and David, grandad ‘Ghandi’ of Elizabeth, Louis and Stan and loving brother of Eileen. Our condolences go to them.
Tony was buried in Aldringham churchyard on 22 June following a lovely service in the church. I’ll miss Tony very much, as will many others in the village.
In memory of Tony, an amount of £177.45p was collected in the village, and in consultation with Moira, a Prunus tree has been purchased in St Andrews's church yard in his name and a plaque with the following message, written by Moira and her family.
'To commemorate the life of Tony Woods from a loving Aldringham community.'
Bill Seale mounted the plaque on a piece of lovely oak and it is in place in the church yard. The rest of the money purchased a gazebo, now to be known as the Tony Woods Gazebo which will be used by Aldringham residents for functions where shelter is necessary.
Thanks to all .
I hope he would have approved and we have a lasting memorial to his memory.
