Aldringham and Thorpeness Parish Council
To all our Parishioners
This is the first major Bank Holiday since Christmas and usually we spend this time of year meeting up with friends and family, going away for a few days and enjoying ourselves. In Thorpeness the Beach and Village Clean with BBQ at the Dolphin afterwards is a very well attended Event, also the annual Easter Egg Hunt but alas this year everything is very different.
We all have to deal with this crisis. When we first heard the word Coronavirus many of us did not understand how much this would affect our day to day lives, unfortunately for those in the Parish who are elderly or live alone, the isolation can be very upsetting.
But we are so lucky to all live in a wonderful Parish with a very strong Community Spirit and we have a lot of amazing people prepared to help out, do shopping, pick up prescriptions etc.
Here are some people who may help you:-
We have the Good Neighbours Scheme (07521 047843) with several willing volunteers. (Petrol money is charged at .45p per mile) this is not a Council run financed scheme.
David and Chris from The Dolphin and The Parrot have been delivering Vegetable Boxes for £20.00, also Frozen meals etc.
Dale comes round with a mobile shop.
Friday Street Butchers deliver.
Nichols the Butchers in Leiston will deliver Meat to you.
Platts The Fruit and Vegetable shop in Leiston will also do deliveries.
For The Garden Ladybird Nurseries will also take and deliver your plant requirements.
We would like to say a big Thank you to Care Home Staff in the area for continuing looking after the sick and elderly.
Fortunately in this day and age we have Messenger, Skype, Zoom Whatsapp etc and several these can help us stay in contact with families and friends. You forget how many friends and relatives you have not spoken to lately, and suddenly we are all contacting each other again.
If you have an interesting story about how you are occupying your time please share this experience with us on our website, I know several of you who I have spoken to have been spending lots of time in their gardens, we will have to have an open Gardens Competition in the future.
The main thought is Stay at Home and be safe this is the best way to protect yourself.
If you see anyone arriving in the area to stay you can report this to the Police by using 101 or going on the website www.suffolk police.uk/contactus.
Best Wishes to everyone in the Parish
