Survey activities are scheduled to commence on Monday 6 June in relation to the proposed Sizewell C nuclear power project.
The works comprise ground investigations of the Sizewell nearshore area, which will inform the construction of the Beach Landing Facility, Outer Bar Dredging, Combined Drainage Outfall, Marine Bulk Import Facility, and Desalination Intake and Outfall.
Sizewell C Co has contracted Fugro to provide marine borehole information in relation to the design and construction of the structures mentioned above. The boreholes will be located to the northeast of the Sizewell B power plant.
The works will be undertaken in an area that extends from the intertidal zone to 2km from the coastline. They will be carried out from a jack-up platform Aran 250, which will be towed to the site from Lowestoft. The platform includes two drilling rig locations: one dedicated to Sonic Drilling and sampling; and the other to Cone Penetration Testing and Cable Percussive/Rotary open hole drilling.
Subject to weather conditions, the works should be completed by the end of July. We will of course keep you informed of any significant changes to this timeframe.
Please note: this does not constitute the start of construction on the project; nor does the work imply that consent for the proposed development is assumed. The planning application for Sizewell C is being considered by the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, with a decision expected no later than 8 July.
