Your Neighbourhood Plan - shaping the future where you live or work.
Aldringham cum Thorpe Parish Council has started work on a Neighbourhood Plan and a Steering Group has been established to move things forward.
On 5 May 2016 Suffolk Coastal District Council approved the designation of the Neighbourhood Plan Area of Aldringham cum Thorpe Parish. The Parish Council formally signed the agreement to continue and start the formal process of producing a Neighbourhood Plan.
On 23 August 2016 a drop-in session was held, the start of the process, and gave an early opportunity for you to understand what a Neighbourhood Plan is all about, share in developing our vision for the future and raise other appropriate issues to be addressed by the Plan. Remember this is only the start of the process and a number of follow on consultations will be held over the coming months, including a questionnaire when everyone in the Parish will have the opportunity to say how important particular issues are to them. This will enable the final draft of the plan to be prepared in, it is hoped, 2018. In the meantime if any of you have any issues you wish to raise please contact me or one of the NP team.
Wherever you live, work, own property or have business interests in this Parish, whether that is in Aldringham, Thorpeness or Sizewell, the Neighbourhood Plan currently being being prepared is highly likely to impact you at times during the 15 years following its approval.

East Suffolk are beginning the consultation on the submitted Aldringham cum Thorpe Neighbourhood Plan from 7th May, 2025 until 5pm 18th June, 2025. More details can be found here.
11th October, 2024
Formal public consultation on the pre-submission consultation on the Aldringham cum Thorpe Neighbourhood Plan begins on 16th October 2024 and concludes at midnight on 11th December 2024.
We are holding drop-in sessions as follows:
16th October at The Country Club (upstairs) 11am to 3pm
17th October at The Parrot (Outside In) 3pm-7pm

August 2017 Update
In a move to address the problem of providing affordable houses in areas of where property value are high, a concern raised by a number Neighbourhood Plans, the government have allocated £60m (see link - https://www.gov.uk/government/news/60-million-boost-for-communities-affected-by-second-homeownership) to address this issue. SCDC has received £1.5m of this money. As a result, we and other East Suffolk coastal towns and parishes were approached by SCDC to see if we were interested in working with them to investigate the practicability of providing affordable housing within our parish, particularly in Thorpeness. Following this initial approach, we agreed to take part in a feasibility study on the assurance that it will not put any obligation on us to proceed with any plan if it does not align with our NP outcomes.
The study will start following an initial meeting with SCDC enabling us to understand how the study will be carried out and to outline our high-level expectations based on previous community consultations and discussions.
